The Chippewa Downs racetrack in North Dakota is situated in the town of Belcourt and offers 2 months racing annually. The track, with a grandstand and sufficient stables for 260 horses, is a part of an unofficial racing circuit which also includes the North Dakota Horse Park based in Fargo, Fort Pierre in South Dakota which races in April, and Aberdeen in South Dakota which races in May. The Chippewa Downs season starts in the second week of June and continues until early July, and this enables North Dakota racing enthusiasts to enjoy their sport for 3 months of the year, switching to the States other tracks, including North Dakota Horse Park, in later July and August. The programme for the 2019 season, which is a typical season, is 8 days of racing on Saturdays and Sundays throughout June. Racing at Chippewa Downs is administered by the Outdoor Recreation Development Association (ORDA) which is authorised by the Chippewa tribe located on the Turtle Mountain reservation. |
